Tribal infant death reported in Attappady

A child born to Murukan and Linki, a tribal couple of Kurukkuthikunnu hamlet, Palur, near Thavalam, in Attappady, died late Saturday for want of post-delivery care.

The police and health workers said Linki developed labour pain by 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. The family was unable to shift her to the tribal super-specialty hospital at Kottathara. The police said road connectivity was bad and the heavy rain made things worse. Linky gave birth to the child by midnight.

District medical authorities said Linki was asked to get admitted to the hospital 10 days ago. The family refused to do so, they said.
