Several places in Kerala experienced tremors on Wednesday afternoon, presumably as a distant echo of the earthquake that shook Indonesia.

Reports reaching here said buildings shook and windowpanes rattled in Kozhikode and Kochi and many other places in the State. Tremors were felt in Thiruvananthapuram too.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy summoned the director of Centre for Earth Sciences and also top government officials here to his office immediately after the tremors were felt in the State to discuss how serious the situation was and whether any precautionary measures were called for.
