Trade unions strike: buses off the roads, trains delayed in Kerala

Only the services of the KSRTC in the Nilackal-Pampa-Nilackal cooridor for Sabarimala pilgrims are operating since the strike began on Monday midnight.

Supporters of the general strike squatting in front of the Raptisagar Express at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station on Tuesday.

The buses of the Kerala Road Transport Corporation were off the road and the trains across the State are running late due to the 48-hour nationwide general strike by National Convention of Workers.

Only the services of the KSRTC in the Nilackal-Pampa-Nilackal cooridor for Sabarimala pilgrims are operating since the strike began on Monday midnight.

Hundreds of commuters were stranded as the entire fleet of private stage carriers in the State stayed off the roads.

Autorickshaws and taxis are also off the roads in response to the stir against the “anti-labour policies” of the Union government.

The trains were hit following the picketing by the supporters of the general strike at Thiruvananthapuram Central, Ernakulam and Kozhikode railway stations. In the central stations, protesters squatted on the track at 5 am blocking the service of Venad Express. The police physically removed them to resume train operations around 630 am.

Over a dozen mail and express trains are running late by 30 minutes to two hours on Tuesday.
