Classes for first batch of MBBS students begins at Paripally

The first batch of MBBS students of the Government Medical College, Paripally, in front of the college on Wednesday.

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja has said the government has plans to cover the whole State with total trauma care.

“All-round development of the health sector remains a priority of the State government,” the Minister said after inaugurating the maiden MBBS classes of the Government Medical College, Kollam, on Wednesday.

She said that doctors who passed out from government medical colleges should commit themselves to serve the State. At the function, K.V. Krishnaprasad, a first batch MBBS student of the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College administered the oath to the freshers.

The function was presided over by G.S. Jayalal, MLA. MPs N.K. Premachandran and K. Somaprasad and Principal Secretary (Health) Rajeev Sadanandan spoke.

Tight security

The inaugural function was held amidst tight security following reports that Congress activists could disrupt the meeting in connection with the demand raised for the resignation of Ms. Shylaja over the child rights panel issue.

Ahead of the entry to the medical college, a group of men jumped in front of the Minister’s convoy waving black flags as she approached.

The police quickly intervened and arrested the demonstrators.

They were later released on bail.
