Preparations are in full swing for the 35th National Games, which will begin here from Saturday.
Minister for Cooperation C.N. Balakrishnan inaugurated the shooting range set up at the Kerala Police Academy, Ramavarmapuram, on Friday.
The district should excel in the sports sector utilising the additional facilities set up in connection with the National Games, he said. After the National Games, sports persons could use the shooting range for practice, said the authorities. Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, presided over the function.

The district will host events, including shooting, boxing, football (women), weightlifting and Judo.
Shooting competition will be held at the Police Academy on February 2. Boxing competitions will be held at Thriprayar Indoor Stadium. Women football competitions will be held at Corporation Stadium. Judo competitions for women will be held at Thrissur Indoor Stadium. Weightlifting competition will be held at V.K.N. Menon Indoor stadium.
Meanwhile, venues and surroundings of the National Games have been declared plastic-free zones as per the direction of the Kerala Suchitwa Mission. Plastic plates, glasses and disposable plates have been banned at the National Games venues. Steel plates will be used at the venues. Aerated soft drinks will not be allowed at the venues.
