Three students injured in campus violence in MG University

Three students injured in campus violence at Mahatma Gandhi University have been admitted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

Another person, an outsider, has also been admitted to the hospital by police. Police have taken three persons, including two students into custody following the campus violence.

Those who have been admitted at the hospital are Wilson Augustin, district committee member of SFI and a student at School of International Relations and Politics, Arun Ravi, student of School of Gandhian Thought and Development Studies and Saneesh Thampi, student of School of Tourism Studies. Another person, who is not a student of the campus, Biju, has also been admitted to the hospital.

Two first year students at School of Behavioural Sciences identified as Shyam and Regil have been taken into police custody along with an outsider.

According to University authorities, the incident was related to a fisticuff between SFI students in the campus and a group of students from School of Behavioural Sciences last Tuesday. The SFI students had questioned the students from School of Behavioural Sciences for alleged misbehaviour with a girl student. A second year student of the School of Behaviour Sciences is in Medical College hospital following the violent incident.

The two first year students had decided to leave the course and arrived in the campus to get the transfer certificate. The two were accompanied by three outsiders, said to be from Mulanthuruthy, ‘fully prepared, for protection’, the sources said.

The incident occurred by 3:30 pm and the car the students had arrived, was destroyed in the violence.
