Barring some sporadic incidents, Taliparamba and nearby areas that were gripped by tension following clashes between workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) remained peaceful on Thursday.
The areas including Ariyil which witnessed clashes following the assault on CPI(M) leaders including party district secretary P. Jayarajan and T.V. Rajesh, MLA and subsequent murder of an IUML activist were returning to normality as the all-party peace meeting held on February 22 evening decided to take efforts to restore peace in the violence-hit areas.
The seizure of two country-made bombs inside the canteen of the CPI(M)-controlled Taliparamba Co-operative Hospital at Taliparamba in the early hours of Thursday close on the heels of the all-party peace meeting raised concern about the volatile situation in the area.

The police said that two bombs were found in the canteen of the hospital at around 4-30 a.m. The personnel of the bomb detection and disposal squad who reached the spot defused the bombs. They also examined the hospital premises in search of more such country-made bombs.
In another incident in the late night on Wednesday stones were pelted at the house of local IUML leader Kallinkeel Musthafa at Taliparamba. Windowpanes in the house were smashed and a motorcycle parked there was also damaged.
The peace meeting held in the Collectorate on Wednesday evening condemned the violent incidents that happened in the areas over the past two days. The meeting called by the Additional District Magistrate N.T. Mathew also decided to convene local level peace meetings. The party leaders resolved to work for maintaining peace in the district.
