One of the prosecution witnesses in the Chandrasekharan murder case told the court here on Wednesday that he had heard K.K. Krishnan, member of the Onchiyam area committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] threaten at a public meeting at Kunnummakkara that “Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan’s head and brain would be found strewn like a coconut flower on the road.”
Deposing before R. Narayana Pisharadi, Special Judge, Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad Cases), K. Achuthan, a tailor, who was running a shop at Kunnmmakkara for the last 12 years, said he had heard the speech of Krishnan during a reception accorded to K.C. Ramachandran, member of the Kunnummakkara local committee of the CPI (M) after he was out on bail in connection with a case of attempting to kill an RMP worker, T.P. Balan, at Kunnummakkara in March 2012.
The case related to a section of CPI (M) leaders in Kozhikode and Kannur district hatching a conspiracy and engaging a hired gang to kill Chandrasekharan , who had formed the Revolutionary Marxist Party ( RMP), after leaving the party in 2008. Chandrasekharan was hacked to death at Vallikkad near Onchiyam on May 4, 2012. Mr. Achuthan said Krishnan was speaking to a crowd gathered in front of a shop owned by Vattakkad Ismail. After the meeting, he had seen both Krishnan and Ramachandran, named 10 and eighth accused in the case, together at the junction, the witness said.

Mr. Achuthan said he could clearly identify the accused present in the court and that he had given a statement in this regard in the months of May- June to the investigators. He said he knew Chandrasekharan as a leader of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), youth wing of the CPI (M), and later a leader of the RMP. A friend informed him about the killing at 6.30 a.m. on May 5, 2012. The witness was examined by the special prosecutor P. Kumarankutty. His cross-examination also was conducted by the defence lawyers on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has decided not to examine N. Venu, leader of the RMP. This was because the prosecution got sufficient evidence to prove the motive behind the killing of Chandrasekharan. There was no need for multiplicity of witnesses, Mr. Kumarankutty said.
Earlier, it had given up examining V. Abhinand alias Nandu, son of Chandrasekharan, K.K. Madhavan, father of Rema, Suresh Babu, brother of Chandrasekharan, citing similar reasons.

The prosecution witnesses – T.K. Sumesh, K.P. Naveen Das, V. Rijesh, V.K.Zakaria, C.P. Haris and A. Rafeeq — would be examined on Friday and Saturday. Sumesh had given a statement under Section 164 (recording of confessions and statement by a magistrate) of the Code of Criminal Procedure on the role of the first, third, fifth and eighth accused in the case.
