Notice to Congress leaders for not holding awareness drive

: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran has once again proved that he means business when it comes to anti-liquor issues.

He on Saturday issued show-cause notice to as many as 18 mandalam committee presidents for their failure in organising the Lehari Viruddha Janakeeya Vedi, sponsored by the KPCC across the State on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Mr. Sudheeran had given a great deal of importance to the campaign as part of his attempt to make the KPCC the spearhead of the drive against substance abuse.

In another move, Mr. Sudheeran ordered the suspension of a functionary from the primary membership of the party for his involvement in moneylending business and for having come under the police net under its Operation Kuberan drive.

The fact that the functionary, Anil Kumar, is chairman of the Seva Dal in Manalur did not stop him from issuing the notice.

Mr. Sudheeran had represented Manalur Assembly seat in the 1980s and 1990s.
