Students flock to see IAF’s might and glory

In awe: The Air Force Station, under the aegis of the Southern Air Command, organised a static display of aircraft and missiles in its technical area in the city on Tuesday in connection with the upcoming Republic Day as part of its ‘Know your Forces’ campaign .

Students from schools and colleges across the district got a rare opportunity to witness the firepower and might of the Indian Air Force (IAF) at the static exhibition of aircraft and missiles that began at the technical area of the air base at Shanghumukhom on Tuesday.

The two-day event was organised by the Southern Air Command at as part of the Republic Day celebrations 2019 under the ‘Know Your Forces’ campaign of the IAF. Group Captain P.K. Avasthi, Station Commander, AF Station, Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated the display.

Air Marshal B. Suresh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, also visited and interacted with the students.

About 1,400 students from 18 schools and colleges including cadets of NCC and Sainik School Kazhakootam visited the venue on Tuesday.

The static display had an array of military aircraft that include Avro, AN-32, Mi-17 helicopter, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), IGLA missile launcher, specialist weapons and equipment used by Garud Commandos of IAF and other weaponry.
