The Ernakulam rural police have formed a special team to probe the murder of a 30-year-old woman, who was found dead at her house near Kuruppampady the other day.

Police officials said the victim, Jisha, was found dead in her bedroom by her mother Rajeswarai. “Preliminary investigations pointed to the possibility of a scuffle between the victim and an unidentified person and a rape before the murder. These details, however, could be verified only after getting the post-mortem report,” said Anil Kumar, Deputy Police Superintendent, Perumbavoor. According to the official, the woman had been smothered and stabbed several times.

“During an interrogation, her neighbours said they had not come across any suspicious movements or heard any unusual sound from the house between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., when the crime reportedly took place. This appears strange as there are several people living close by and we need to probe further on this angle,” the official added.

Jisha had been living at the house along with her mother Rajeswari. Rajeswari found her daughter lying dead when she reached home around 7.30 p.m. on Friday.
