Solar case: BJP leader claims to have proof

August 23, 2013 02:17 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:25 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary K. Surendran has claimed that he is in possession of ‘documentary evidence’ to prove that a statement made by solar scam accused Saritha S. Nair from the Pathanamthitta jail had been tampered with to protect Union and State Ministers and some senior bureaucrats.

Mr. Surendran said at a press conference here on Thursday that he had with him a letter from the jail superintendent, received in response to a request made under the Right to Information Act, which said that Saritha’s statement was cut short in jail from 21 to just three-and-a-half pages.

Demanding that his charge be brought within the ambit of the proposed judicial inquiry into the scam, the BJP leader went on to allege that the ‘original statement’ contained names of Ministers and senior bureaucrats and that these were removed before the statement was submitted to court. The BJP leader alleged that some Congress leaders were behind the moves to scuttle the case.
