Sabarimala: BJP delegation calls on Kovind

Published - January 09, 2019 07:17 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

BJP State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and a delegation comprising V. Muraleedharan, MP, called on President Ramnath Kovind in Delhi on Wednesday to apprise him of the Sabarimala agitation.

Mr. Pillai, later, told reporters that he had informed Mr. Kovind of the alleged decline in law and order situation and that the State government was treating BJP and Sangh Parivar workers as second class citizens. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, he said, was targeting the faithful and trying to eliminate Sangh Parivar and BJP workers. Cases had been registered against 35,000 workers who took part in the Sabarimala agitation, he said.

Mr. Pillai said the BJP was seeking legal recourse against the State government. A party delegation had met Governor P. Sathasivam and now they called on Mr. Kovind to seek a legal and constitutional solution to the decline in law and order and spread of violence.
