Rs.3.9 crore for breakwater facility

: The government has sanctioned Rs.3.9 crore to construct a breakwater facility near Puthenpurakkal junction at Thrikkunnapuzha. Making the announcement at a function at Thrikkunnapuzha on Wednesday, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the area had been facing sea erosion for long. With the completion of the proposed project, the entire stretch of in Haripad would be free from the threat of erosion, the minister said.

He said Rs. 1 crore has been distributed to those who suffered losses in the whirlwind. Funds worth Rs. 10 crore have been allocated for road works on the Thrikkunnapuzha-Arattupuzha stretch. The government is spending Rs. 18 crore for housing under Matsyagramam project to provide houses for the homeless. An amount of Rs. 20 crore is being spent on building the Kumarakodi bridge. A memorial for poet Kumaranasan is also being planned, the minister said.
