Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leaders led by K.K. Rema plan to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the conspiracy behind the killing of T.P. Chandrasekharan.
The stance of the party comes in the wake of the new government assuming office at the Centre.
Mr. Modi had raked up the issue at an election rally in Thiruvananthapuram in March.

Mr. Modi had then criticised the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for their ‘politics of adjustment’ on the CBI probe that had compelled the slain RMP leader’s wife to go on an indefinite hunger strike.
Last month, the CBI had turned down a request of the State government stating that the case was not worthy to be handled by a Central agency. Both Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had reiterated that the government would write to the CBI a second time.

The RMP State committee will meet here on Sunday to take a final call on the issue. “Both the UDF and the LDF have been playing hide and seek in the matter,” Ms. Rema told The Hindu here on Friday.
Significantly, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had asked the government to seek ‘legal and administrative measures’ to order a CBI probe into the conspiracy angle in the Marad massacre, killing of Yuva Morcha leader K.T. Jayakrishnan, and murder of Chandrasekaharan.
At present, a special investigation team led by Additional Director-General of Police (North Zone) N. Shanker Reddy is investigating the case registered at the Edacherry police station on the basis of a complaint by Ms. Rema that senior CPI(M) leaders had prior knowledge that Chandrasekharan would be killed.
Special teamIt was the special team that had recommended a CBI probe after investigators obtained more evidence regarding the conspiracy into the murder on May 4, 2012.
Previously, the RMP wanted to move the Kerala High Court for a CBI probe. But it was unsure whether the court would give a ruling in favour of the party. “Maybe the Centre can issue a special order for a CBI probe,” Ms. Rema said.
The RMP leaders’ stance follows a legal advice that constitutional courts cautiously use their powers to order further/ fresh probe by the CBI.
A Supreme Court order in 2002 had ruled that high courts should order a CBI probe only if it was thoroughly certain that there was a prima facie case for investigation by the CBI.
