Coastal families face threat of erosion

Torrential rain accompanied by strong winds has caused extensive damage in the district.

Many trees were uprooted and electric posts fell down in the strong wind at Kanimangalam. Vehicular traffic was disrupted and power supply went off. The traffic was resumed after the Fire and Rescue Force removed the trees.

Strong winds flew away roof tiles of Kottappady church and school. A few motorcycles were damaged. Though Sunday school students were present at the church, nobody was injured.

The lashing tidal waves caused extensive damage along the coastal belt of the district. The situation is severe in Engandiyur and Ethai beach. More than hundred houses are facing the threat of the rough sea.

Sea walls have collapsed in many places. Many coconut trees were uprooted. Around hundred houses in Vaka, Eriyad and Manappattuchal are also facing the fury of the sea.

Gopalan of Thekkanthara was injured when a tree fell over his house in Ponnookkara. A devotee was injured when the roof sheet of Thekke Nadappura of the Sreekrishna Temple, Guruvayur, fell over him.

Waterlogging is severe in low-lying areas in the district.
