Rail traffic on Konkan route hit

Mail and express trains originating and departing from various stations in Kerala and running via Konkan Railway have been diverted following the collapse of a retaining wall near Nivar station in Ratnagiri on Friday morning in the incessant rain lashing the region.

Railway sources said traffic along the single-line Konkan railway route had been severely affected.

The retaining wall, which was constructed recently as a protective measure, collapsed at around 4 a.m. The single-line railway section that falls in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra was closed for traffic immediately.

As per information reaching the divisional railway headquarters here, work to clear the debris had been taken up by Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. Restoration of the track is likely to take two days owing to inclement weather. The trains diverted via Madgaon, Londa and Mirage are the 12202 Kochuveli -Lokmanyatilak Garibrath Express that left Kochuveli on June 16.

The 12431 Thiruvananthapuram– Hazarat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express of June 16, 12287 Kochuveli- Dehradhun Express that left Kochuveli at 8.50 a.m. on June 17, 12519 Ernakulam- Pune Express Express that left Ernakulam Junction at 5.15 a.m. on June 17 had also been diverted.

The railways have also diverted trains coming from various destinations via Konkan Railway to the State.

The trains diverted via Kalyan and Pune are the12618 Nizamuddini- Ernakulam Mangala express that left Nizamuddin on June 16. The passengers of other trains in this section will be transhipped between Ratnagiri and Adavil stations by road, sources said.

Among the trains that were diverted were the incoming Nizamuddin -Ernakulam Mangala Express.

The train was diverted via Kalyan and Pune to Ernakulam. The 12287 Kochuveli- Dehradun Express that left here on Friday was diverted via Shoranur, Erode, Jolarpettai, Bangalore City and New Delhi. The12217 Kochuveli-Chandigarh Express of Saturday will also run via Shoranur, Erode, Jolarpettai, Bangalore City and New Delhi.

The 16335 Gandhidham- Nagercoil Express on Friday was diverted via Panvel, Pune, Wadi, Jolarpettai, Palakkad, and Shoranur and the16338 Ernakulam- Hapa Express via Shoranur, Palakkad, Jolarpettai, Wadi, Pune, and Panvel.

The 12134/ 12133 Mangalore Junction -Lokmanya Tilak – Mangalore Junction Expresses will be cancelled up to June 20.

Transhipment of passengers of the following trains will be taken up by the railways between the Ratnagiri and Adavali stations.

The 16333 Veraval- Thiruvananthapuram Express of June 16 with the 12617 Ernakulam- Nizamuddin Mangla Express.

The 16346 Thiruvananthapuram -Lokmanya Tilak Netravathi Express of June 17 with the 16345 Lokmanya Tilak Netravathi- Thiruvanathapuram of June 18. The 12620 Mangalore Central- CST Mumbai Express of June 18 with the 12619 CST Mumbai- Mangalore Central Express.
