PSS to enhance maintenance grant for snakeboats

The Nair Service Society general secretary, G. Sukmaran Nair, has called upon the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom to ensure co-operation of different sections of the society to the annual snakeboat regatta, Uthrittathi vallamkali, in the waters of river Pampa at Aranmula.

The NSS general secretary was talking to the newly elected PSS office-bearers during their visit to Perunna to offer floral tributes at the Mannam Samadhi Mandapam there on Tuesday forenoon.

The PSS president, K.V. Sambadevan and secretary, Ratheesh R. Mohan, said the sanghom would enhance the annual maintenance grant for the snakeboats from Rs 60,000 to not less than Rs 1,00,000, this year.

They said as many as 50 snakeboats would take part in the forthcoming snakeboat regatta during the Onam festival season.

The panel led by Mr Sambadevan, supported by the NSS had swept the elections held to the 17-member PSS governing body on Sunday.
