The Special Additional District Sessions Court (Marad cases) at Eranhipalam here has issued orders directing the Superintendent of Kozhikode District Jail to provide necessary treatment to T.K. Rajeesh, the fourth accused in the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam.
Special judge R. Narayana Pisharadi issued the orders on Friday after Rajeesh moved a petition saying that jail authorities were not providing treatment to him. The accused had also alleged that the Crime Branch officials probing the murder of K.T. Jayakrishnan, a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader, had tortured him during interrogation at the jail in the absence of the Jail Superintendent.
The court also issued directions that an X-ray of Rajeesh’s neck should be taken for examining an injury and that he should be given treatment if there was any injury. If a treatment was carried out, the Superintendent should furnish a detailed report on this to the court.

Rajeesh had submitted the petition on December 20 when the court framed the charges and read out the offence to the accused. Then the court had directed Sam Thankachan, Jail Superintendent, Kannur Central Prison, to submit a report on December 27 on the treatment provided to Rajeesh.
Later, Rajeesh was shifted to the Kozhikode District Jail. He appeared in the court with a cervical collar on Thursday. The court rejected his plea that he be shifted back to the Kannur Central Prison and said that an accused had no right to choose a jail. This was after he stated that there was a conspiracy behind his shifting from the Kannur jail to Kozhikode.
Rajeesh was one of the seven members of the alleged killer gang that hacked to death the RMP leader at Onchiyam on May 4. He was arrested from Sateli-Bhedshi, 400 km away from Mumbai, in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. During interrogation he had allegedly confessed to the police that he was one of the persons who arrived in two jeeps to kill Jayakrishnan in front of his pupils in a classroom at the East Mokeri Upper Primary School on December 1, 1999.

This paved the way for the reopening of the case.
A team of police personnel, led by A.P. Shoukath Ali, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch Crime Investigation Department, is probing the case.
