The Kerala High Court, on Friday, directed the Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association to file a counter affidavit in response to the State government’s petition seeking permission to conduct fresh entrance test for admission to the management seats in self-financing colleges under the association on June 22.
Justice K.T Sankaran and Justice B. Kemal Pasha issued the order when the application filed by the State government came up for hearing.
Counsel for the association George Poonthottam sought more time to file affidavit and the Bench posted the case to Monday. According to the State, the association was not cooperating with the State government to complete the steps to conduct the test in time. The association had not forwarded the requisite details regarding the applicants, number of candidates who were eligible to appear for the examination, etc. It also sought ten more days to conduct the test.

Meanwhile, P.A. Fazal Gafoor, MES Medical College Director, filed a petition in the High Court seeking quashing of the order of the admission supervisory committee cancelling the entrance test for management seats. According to him, there was no justification for cancelling the examination. The reason given was that there were some agitations by certain students’ organisations and political parties out side the premises of the examination venue and there were some media reports alleging manipulation.
The petition by the MES said none of the reasons stated in the committee’s order were genuine or proper. The direction to conduct a fresh examination by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations was contrary to the law laid down by the Supreme Court.
