The Kollam MLA P.K. Gurudasan says that development of the Kollam Port, completion of the coastal road and programmes to ease the traffic congestion in the city will be his priorities. He was talking to The Hindu on his agenda for the constituency during the next five years.
Mr. Gurudasan said that along with the commissioning of the road-overbridge at the SP office junction, the construction of the coastal road will have to be completed. Only then it would ease traffic. The construction of the new bridge at Kochupilamoodu which he initiated as part of the coastal road and port development programme is nearing completion. Kollam not only needs new roads but also further development of many of the existing roads.
The Asramam link road which was constructed during his previous term needs to be extended from the KSRTC junction to Thoppilkadavu by constructing bridges and flyovers. He wanted Rs. 1 crore to be allocated in the Budget for the preparation of a detailed project report for the purpose.

A road development work which needs to be urgently completed in the city is the construction of a new bridge parallel to the Iron bridge across the Kollam Canal. The tender procedures for Rs. 7.86 crore for the purpose has been completed and now the PWD will have to handover the land required for the purpose. But one land owner is yet to vacate in spite of an allocation of Rs. 33.5 lakh for the land to be acquired from him. Mr. Gurudasan wanted the District Collector to speed up the acquisition proceedings in this connection.
Land acquisition for widening the Vaddy-Mulakkada road had begun a year ago but is yet to be completed. Mr. Gurudasan said he will put pressure for the early completion of the land acquisition. Rs. 4 crore had been allocated for the purpose during the 2009-2010 fiscal he said.
Mr. Gurudasan wanted the government to allocate Rs. 1 crore for the preparation of a detailed project report for the construction of a bypass road connection the Kollam-Theni National Highway 208 from Kollam city to Kundara via Nair’s Hospital junction, Uliyakovil, Mangad and Thannikkamukku.

He will exert pressure for the allocation of Rs. 1.50 crore for the renovation of the Kandachira bridge on the Kilkollur-Perinad road and Rs. 1 crore for the first phase construction of new bridge linking Kureepuzha Panamukku to Kadavur. Rs. 5.50 crore has to be allocated for improvements to the road from the Congress Bhavan to Mulakkada Bridge and another Rs. 7.5 crore for constructing the four lane Tangasseri-Shakthikulangara road.
He would give priority for the early completion of the Vaddy Fishing Harbour modernisation work under the auspices of the national Fishermen Development Board. He said that Rs. 62.5 crore has been allocated in the last budget of the previous LDF government for a three year development work of the Kollam port. He will ensure the proper utilisation of the amount. Mr. Gurudasan said that these development works will by itself ensure a comprehensive development of the port.
The gas insulated sub station of the KSEB for Kollam city which he had initiated during the previous term is under construction and he will ensure it early completion which in turn in ensure quality uninterrupted power supply to Kollam. Early completion of the work for a new building in the District Hospital complex will also be ensured.
Rs. 3 crore has been allocated for it. He will exert pressure on the government for commencing the construction work on the Kollam-Theni National Highway as per the Union government recognised Anchulmoodu-Kundara revised alignment. The estimate for the purpose is under preparation.
