Sabarigiri, the State’s second largest hydroelectric project, presents a grim storage position in its Kakki-Anathode twin reservoir as well as the Pampa reservoir, with poor inflow from the catchment areas.
According to Kerala State Electricity Board sources, power generation at the Moozhiyar power house of the Sabarigiri project was only 3.82 million units (mu) on Monday. The 340 MW power house that has six generators has got a capacity to generate a maximum of 8.1 mu a day.
The storage position in the Sabarigiri reservoirs as on Tuesday morning was 145.709 million cubic metres (mcm) which is 30.51 per cent of its total storage capacity of 477.6 mcm, sources said.

The total inflow to the KSEB reservoirs across the State on Tuesday forenoon was only 0.684 mu while that of the Sabarigiri reservoirs was 0.391 mu, sources said.
The State’s hydropower generation on Monday was only 15.08 mu against Monday’s total power consumption of 75.32 mu. The State had witnessed this year’s highest power consumption of 80.44 mu on April 29.
The cumulative storage in the KSEB reservoirs across the State has been recorded at 1,033.61 mu as on Tuesday morning and this is 24.96 per cent of the maximum storage capacity (4,140 mu) of all reservoirs attached to the board.

In Idukki
The storage position in the Idukki arch dam too has recorded a low at 22.42 per cent of its total capacity, sources said. However, the KSEB expects a fairly good summer rain in the coming days as per the prediction of the Meteorological department.
