Plus One admission: Rabb urged to clarify

The recent statement of the Education Minister P.K Abdu Rabb that CBSE students who have cleared the school-conducted Class-X examinations would not be considered for Plus-One course in the State syllabus has put many students and parents in a dilemma, Fr James Mullasserry attached to the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) group of Institutions has said.

It is noteworthy that the CBSE has given two options to the students, either to clear the Board Examinations or the school-based examination.

Of equal importance

The Board has announced that both the examinations are of equal importance and the students will be getting the same certificate.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Fr Mullasserry who is also the former secretary of Sahodaya, said that many students had opted for the Class-X examinations conducted by schools on the basis of the CBSE decision in this regard.

Opportunity denied

The Education Minister’s announcement on the government decision came after the CBSE examinations, thereby denying the opportunity to those students who wished to switch over to the State syllabus from the CBSE stream.

Moreover, the government was yet to clarify whether the decision was applicable to unaided schools too so that the aggrieved students could seek admissions at least at various unaided schools across the State, he said.
