The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is gearing up to launch a student entrepreneurship programme across its campuses to make students self-reliant while pursuing various courses under the university.
A recent meeting of the Board of Management of the KVSU held at Pookode in Wayanad district decided to launch the programme in the first week of May.

Deans of the respective campuses would announce the available hours for part-time work. Based on the demand for jobs, candidates would be selected from the student labour bank, Dr. Ashok said. A student could work up to 10 hours a week with a maximum of 40 hours a month.

The student would be paid Rs.50 an hour for the part-time work and can earn up to Rs.2,000 a month under the programme, T.P. Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU, said.
It was expecting that the project would help students from economically weaker families to find income to support their studies, Dr. Sethumadhavan said.
Recently, the university launched sales counters at its Mannuthy campus in Thrissur district as a part of the project. All products of the university, including dairy and meat products and publications, were available for sale. The sales counters would be fully managed by students.They were planning to open a similar counter at the KVASU headquarters at Pookode, he added.
A recent meeting reviewed the execution of the project. Sisilamma George, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences; G. Girish Varma, Dean, College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy; and N. Divakaran Nair, Director of Students Welfare, attended the meeting.
