A sense of anxiety and expectation among students marked the first day of the SSLC examination in the district as 36,592 students here reached the examination centres on Monday.
As many as 191 examination centres were arranged in the district for the students to appear for the examination. The district posted the highest SSLC pass rate among the revenue district last year as 98.27 per cent of students who appeared for the SSLC examination in 2014 passed. The total examination centres include 34 in the Kannur education district, 73 in the Thalassery education district and 84 in the Taliparamba education district. According to Education Department officials here, the total number of students who are appearing for the SSLC examination now included 18,659 boys and 17,933 girls.
While 7,820 students are in Kannur, 15,623 are in Thalassery and 13,149 in Taliparamba. Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School at Thalassery with 1,155 SSLC students accounts for the highest number of candidates appearing for the SSLC examination.

The Elayavur CH Memorial HSS topped the number of students appearing for the examination in the Kannur education district. As many as 980 students are enrolled for the examination there.
In the Taliparamba education district, Seethi Saheb HSS with 1,098 students topped the list.
The ‘Mukulam’ project launched by the district panchayat here for offering special and extra student centred support mechanism for improving SSLC examination results has proved successful. The record pass percentage achieved last year rose from 77.58 per cent pass in 2006 when the project was launched.
