The State is contemplating a human organ donation and transplantation law on the lines of the one enacted by Tamil Nadu, Health Minister Adoor Prakash told the Assembly on Wednesday.
Replying to a submission by M.P. Vincent (Congress), the Health Minister said that a five-member expert committee, which had been constituted to make recommendations in this regard, had visited Tamil Nadu and submitted its report. The government was studying the report and would soon take a decision on a new enactment, he said.
The Health Minister told Shafi Parambil (Congress) that the government would soon take steps to put an end to internship by nursing students. Although one-year internship was mandatory for nursing students in several universities in Kerala, the Kerala University of Health Sciences did not insist on internship for its B.Sc. nursing course, he pointed out.

He told Thomas Unniyadan (KC-M) that post mortem cannot be avoided in ‘brought dead' cases at hospitals. However, the police could avoid post mortem if the relatives of the deceased person were able to produce documentary evidence to prove that the person was undergoing treatment for life-threatening diseases, he said.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told Manjalamkuzhi Ali (IUML) that the government would draw the attention of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs the difficulties being experienced by persons working abroad when their visa-bearing passports were being seized by the passport authorities for minor errors in them.
Labour Minister Shibu Baby John told E.S. Bijimol (CPI) that the government hoped to clinch wage revision in the plantation sector through negotiations. The next meeting of the Plantation Labour Committee would be held on October 3. In case, no decision was possible through the negotiation route, the government would consider revising the wages through a notification, he said.
