The district electoral wing has launched a novel way to spread awareness on voting.
The authorities of government hospitals will provide outpatient tickets containing a message in Malayalam, urging people to exercise the right to vote.
The message would reach the homes of over 20,000 outpatients who reach the 82 hospitals and health centres daily in the district. District Collector and District Electoral Officer R. Girija inaugurated the programme at a function held at the General Hospital here on Saturday by distributing OP tickets containing the ‘vote’ message to patients. She called upon all those whose names appear on the voters’ list to exercise their right to adult franchise and become part of the grand democratic process.

The programme is being organised under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) project.
The message is expected to reach lakhs of people in the coming days. The project is targeted at an increase in the voting percentage in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Vote rallies were organised on Friday in all the nine constituencies in the district, as part of the SVEEP project. The district-level programme was flagged off by the District Electoral Officer at the Block office, Aryad.
Anganwadi workers, Kudumbasree workers, National Savings Scheme agents, MGNREGS workers, and volunteers of non-government organisations took part in the rallies which highlighted the message to exercise the right to vote. — Special Correspondent
