Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair has sought action against the alleged tapping of the telephones of senior leaders, including those of community organisations.
Speaking to mediapersons at the NSS headquarters at Perunna on Thursday, Mr. Nair alleged that the Intelligence wing was tapping his phone with the knowledge of the Home Minister.
The press conference was called following a report that appeared in a language daily to the effect that telephones of leaders of community organisations were being tapped.

Alleging that leaders of community organisations were being treated like criminals by the United Democratic Front government, Mr. Nair said that reliable persons had passed on the information on phone tapping to him, and that he had called the Home Minister and expressed his apprehensions more than a week ago.
‘‘He took a class on how telephones were tapped and the legal issues involved, but made a passing remark that my telephone was not being tapped,’’ Mr. Nair said.

The police will not tap anyone’s telephone without the knowledge of the Home Minister, Mr. Nair said adding that there was no meaning in the Home Minister denying the charge as he is the culprit.
‘‘What is the meaning in the culprits themselves investigating the charge,’’ he asked.
