‘Ongoing discussions focussed on reconstitution of party’

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Kodikunnil Suresh has said there is nothing wrong in party leaders holding dual positions.

He said the current discussions was not focussed on reconstitution of the party, but rather on installing vice presidents, general secretaries and secretaries.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Suresh, who was re-elected from the Mavelikara Lok Sabha seat, said the working president system was implemented by the All India Congress Committee in all States. It was for the AICC to decide whether this system was to be discontinued.

He said that it was hardly 10 months ago that the AICC had appointed three working presidents, including himself. He was a Parliament member when he was appointed as working president. The situation had not changed much except for the massive victory registered by the party in the Lok Sabha election.

He did not subscribe to the view that MPs and MLAs should be kept out of party positions. The party did not have a one-man-one-post policy. There had been several instances when the party had utilised the services of MPs and MLAs for organisation work, he said.
