Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has said that it is not for Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to decide the terms of reference of the judicial inquiry into the solar scam as he too faces charges relating to the scam.
In a statement here on Friday, Mr. Achuthanandan said there was no question of the Opposition accepting the terms of reference if the Chief Minister were to decide it. The Government Chief Whip was on record that the solar scam was not a mere financial fraud, but a massive conspiracy to commit fraud involving around Rs.10,000 crore. The Chief Whip had also sought the Chief Minister’s resignation in connection with the scam, claiming that he had evidence to prove all this, the Opposition leader pointed out. Mr. Achuthanandan said there were several evidences pointing to Mr. Chandy’s involvement in the case.
Among these were the documents showing telephonic contacts between the solar scam accused with higher-ups, including the Chief Minister, the Chief Minister’s meeting with accused Biju Radhakrishnan at the Ernakulam government guest house, the picture showing Saritha S. Nair, another key accused, speaking into Mr. Chandy’s ears, and his letters used by the accused for committing the scam. The probe should actually be into the conspiracy hatched by the Chief Minister and his compatriots to commit fraud involving around Rs.10,000 crore and the way they had cheated several people, he said.
