Writer-social activist Sara Joseph, who is at the helm of affairs of Aam Aadmi Party in Kerala, is certain that her party will pave the way for a new thinking in contemporary politics. The manifesto released by Left parties has taken cue from the principles highlighted by AAP, she told The Hindu in a telephonic interview. “More than being in power, underlining the values of democratic polity is the role being played by AAP. The party’s candidates are those who have been chosen by the people.” A panel of names of prospective candidates had been formed in each ward where the party had ample number of supporters. Elimination was a natural process that got evolved within the panel.
The party wanted at least five volunteers in each booth. They should undertake a door-to-door campaign. Those who could intervene in issues of public interest were given preference. They should keep vigil against social inequities. “The candidates should be able to fight corruption. Unless we find such candidates, there is no point in fielding them.”
