Bodies of nurse, child killed in attack yet to be released from hospital

Even after 10 days of the tragic attack that claimed the lives of his wife and only child in the Libyan city of Sabratha, D. Vipin Kumar is still running from pillar to post to bring back their bodies to his homeland.

In a message Mr. Kumar said that the embalming of the bodies have not taken place so far. The bodies are kept at the Shara Zawia Central hospital in Tripoli and the formalities involving their employer and the government authorities have delayed the return of the bodies, he said.

“We have mailed the letter to get the funds released to conduct the embalming. It has to be released by the Ministry of Health,” Mr. Kumar said. The passport remains with the hospital administration where they were working. Now he has to get the exit visa.

According to him, though India does not have a full fledged Mission in Tripoli, those in charge are in regular contact with the hospital authorities.

“I don’t know when we will be able to return,” said a frustrated Mr. Kumar.

Meanwhile, the 32 Indians stranded in the seaside city of Motred have seen little progress in their attempts to return.

Their papers are being signed by the hospital authorities and banks have also started releasing funds from their accounts. However, they are still in the dark about the return as the journey was a risky affair.
