MVI held on graft charges

A Vigilance team on Friday arrested motor vehicle inspector (MVI) at Ranni Renjithmon, 33, on charges of corruption.

According to the police, the arrest was made on the basis of a raid conducted at the Joint Regional Transport Office at Ranni on March 3 when the accused was the Joint Regional Transport Officer in-charge.

The raid party led by Deputy Superintendent of Police P.D. Radhakrishna Pillai found Rs.2,250 from the ventilator of the lavatory and Rs.4,950 from the office files.

The police action was following a complaint filed by Oommen George who runs a driving school at Ranni.

The arrest was made after summoning the accused to the Vigilance office in Pathanamthitta. Mr. Renjithmon who had developed health problems following the arrest was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam for medical examination.

The police said he would be produced before the Vigilance court.
