The Kazhakuttam Railway Development Action Council has got an assurance of more halts for mail and express trains at the Kazhakuttam railway station and more infrastructural facilities for the station from Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani.
The assurance was the outcome of a meeting the office-bearers of the council had with Mr. Lohani, who met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan last week.
The Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Ananthapuri Express, extended to Kollam from November 1, has no halt at Kazhakkuttam.

The Chairman has asked the railway authorities to look into the issue after the issue was taken up by Shashi Tharoor, MP.
Special consideration
“Kazhakkuttam will get special consideration, including halts for trains via Alappuzha, and General Manager, Southern Railway, has been advised to look into the request,” action council general convener John Venatius said in a statement issued here.

Immediate sanction of halt at Kazhakuttam for trains such as Kochuveli-Bengaluru, Inter-city, Eranad Express, Netravati Express, Jayanti Janata Express, Venad Express, and Maveli Express for the benefit of employees of Technopark had been raised by Mr. Tharoor and the action council with the Railway Board chairman.
The railway action council members also explained the unique features and significance of Kazhakuttam to the Railway Board Chairman.
