Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated a new civil station at Chittur near here by on Saturday, ending a four-decade wait of residents for an administrative complex. A mini civil station, housing all State government offices at the taluk headquarters, was promised way back in 1978.
Mr. Chandy called upon government employees to redress grievances of the public in a time-bound manner. He said the government was committed to ensuring maximum infrastructural facilities for government employees.
The largest of its kind in the State, the three-storied 62,660-sq ft building was built at an expense of Rs.6.7 crore. It has ample vehicle parking facilities.

K. Achuthan, MLA, presided over the function. P.K. Biju, MP, who was the chief guest on the occasion, promised Rs.1 crore from his local area development fund for constructing a bus stand at Chittur if the municipality was ready to provide land free of cost. V. Chenthamarakshan, MLA, spoke.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new block of the Government Victoria High School for Girls at Chittur, which was constructed in memory of singer P. Leela.
He said government schools in the State had made rapid strides in ensuring quality education to all. He said many government schools had outsmarted private schools with CBSE syllabus in ensuring quality education. Mr. Chandy also inaugurated the 125th anniversary celebrations of Seeli Memorial High School at Thathamangalam.
