Mild tremors felt in Kozhikode, Malappuram

Mild tremors were reported from different parts of Kozhikode and Malappuram districts on Sunday. The tremors that measured less than 3 on the Richter Scale were felt at Kottooly, Cheruvannur, Beypore, Panniyankara, Karuvanthuruthy, Kadalundy and Vallikkunnu at around 10 a.m. The region had experienced tremors in February 2013 as well as I June 2012.

Houses damaged Staff Reporter adds from Malappuram: Several houses along the coast in the district developed cracks following a tremor at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday.

People ran out of their houses and shops in panic as the earth shook for a few seconds at Parappanangadi, Vallikkunnu, Tanur, and Tirur areas. People said the quake lasted for six seconds. The houses of Kunhimohammed, A.P. Abdul Razak, P. Nasar, E. Nisar, and M. Beevathu at Kanhithodu near Saddam Beach at Parappanangadi were damaged. The houses of Sarojini and P. Kunhimohammed on Angadi Beach at Parappanangadi too were damaged. The tremors were felt at Chelari, Calicut University, Padikkal, and most places close to the coast.
