Met office predicts more rainfall

The weather office on Monday said the rainfall activity over Kerala was likely to increase in intensity over the next 48 hours in association with a fresh surge of monsoon westerlies.

A cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to become more marked by Tuesday, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the State. Fishermen are advised not to venture out to sea.

Widespread rainfall has been forecast for Kerala up to August 17. Munnar recorded the highest rainfall of 11.38 cm on Monday.

Govt appeal for aid

The government has appealed for financial assistance to reconstruct damaged infrastructure, including houses and roads, and help farmers reeling under heavy crop loss.

An official pressnote issued here on Monday sought liberal donations to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to help the government take up rehabilitation activities.

The pressnote advised the public to contact the district-level emergency operations centre at 1077 for supply of relief materials.
