Meeting on Kerala’s Fiqh heritage held

Syed Basheerali Shihab Thangal inaugurating an exhibition on Fiqh at Darul Huda Islamic University, Chemmad, in Malappuram, on Sunday.

Darul Huda Islamic University, Chemmad, conducted a daylong conclave on Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) Heritage of Kerala on its campus on Sunday.

Ateeq Ahmed Al Qasimi Al Bastawi of the Islamic Fiqh Academy, India, inaugurated the conference. K.C. Mohammed Baqavi, Postgraduate Dean of the university, presided.

The conclave marked six parallel sessions on different aspects of the Fiqh heritage in Kerala. Scholar Onampilly Mohammed Faizi presided over a session which focused on the development of Madhab or the school of Islamic law. K.K. Abdul Sattar presided over a session on different streams in Fiqh.

Zubair Hudavi presided over a session on prominent Fiqh scholars of Kerala and N.A.M. Abdul Khader chaired a session on major centres of Fiqh education. Gafoor Anwari moderated a session on Fiqh debates and Hamza Rahmani chaired a session on major works of Fiqh.

The conclave called upon Islamic scholars in the State to take initiative for consolidation of the Fiqh manuscripts available in Kerala. It also called upon the scholars to encourage research in Fiqh.

Young Islamic scholar Syed Basheerali Shihab Thangal inaugurated an exhibition on Fiqh held as part of the conclave. The exhibition, which concluded on Monday, was arranged in 10 categories. It attracted huge crowds to the Darul Huda campus.
