The Public Works Department (PWD) will organise a three-day Infrastructure Conference 2011 here from November 16 as part of getting acquainted with modern techniques and approaches in the infrastructure and construction sectors.
Minister for Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju told reporters here on Monday that the conference would focus on project conceptualisation and planning, investigation and data capture using modern techniques, design, and comprehensive safety measures among other key factors that would help improve the quality of civil works being executed by the department.
This was a major step in modernising the department by imbibing latest technologies, construction techniques, and management systems for sustainable development, he said.

As many as 24 experts would share their experiences with department officials and other delegates at the eight technical sessions, to be followed by brain-storming sessions. Experts, policy-makers, sector drivers, and field-level executors are expected to shed light on technology options, policy conundrums, planning, and implementation aspects.
Quality assurance programmes and internationally accepted best practices in civil construction too would be covered.
The recommendations and suggestions that emerged in the conference would be placed before the Cabinet for approval for policy integration.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the conference at a function to be chaired by Mr. Ebrahim Kunju. About 175 delegates will take part.
