The Central University of Kerala (CUK) has convened a meeting on Tuesday to sort out issues pertaining to the disciplinary action taken against a senior faculty member and an undergraduate student. District Collector D. Sajithbabu; P. Karunakaran, MP; K. Kunhiraman, MLA; student representatives; and other top university officials are expected to attend the meeting. Meanwhile, K. Jayaprasad, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university, has lodged a complaint with the police that he has been receiving death threats from various quarters. He said the first call was received on August 14.
The caller was allegedly a CPI(M) State leader. In a reply SMS, the PVC told the caller that the institution would initiate legal action against him, a CUK statement said on Monday. However, the PVC said he continued to receive similar threatening calls adding that “insulting” comments were circulated in the social media thereafter.
The statement said a protest demonstration taken out by SFI and DYFI activists on September 11 and 12 had raised slogans threatening his life.

The university has brought it to the attention of the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, narrating the vitiated ambience on the campus.
The developments come in the light of the disciplinary action taken against Prasad Pannian, who was divested of headship of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, and an under-graduate International Relations student who was dismissed from the campus for posting derogatory comments against the university Vice Chancellor G. Gopakumar.
