As many as 56,000 police officials and their families in Kerala are expected to benefit from a medical insurance scheme covering injuries and death in the line of duty.

The scheme includes a buffer sum of Rs.1 crore to cover the treatment of injuries suffered in accidents, police action or encounter with a violent mob, and another buffer sum of Rs.50 lakh for critical illness. Treatment at government Ayurvedic hospitals is also covered under the scheme.
