: Maundy Thursday was observed by Christians in the district with church services on Thursday to commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist by Jesus Christ.

The faithful attended the Maundy Thursday services in the churches.

Christians observe the Thursday before the Easter Sunday as Maundy Thursday to be followed by Good Friday to commemorate the Crucifixion of Christ.

The ‘washing of feet’ ritual was observed at various churches as part of the special service on the occasion.

Thalassery Archbishop Mar George Njeralakkat led the service at the St. Joseph’s Cathedral at Thalassery.

Similar services led by vicars were held at churches in different parts of the district. The Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam diocese, Joseph Pandarasseril, performed the washing of feet service at the Central Jail here on the occasion.
