March to carry Party Congress flag

The flag to be hoisted at the 20th Party Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to be held in Kozhikode from April 4 to 9 will be taken in a procession from the Valiya Chudukkad here on March 31.

The Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs' Memorial at Valiya Chudukkad has been the resting place of many Communist stalwarts, including P. Krishna Pillai, T.V. Thomas, M.N. Govindan Nair and recently C.K. Chandrappan.

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan will flag off the procession carrying the flag at 2 p.m. CPI (M) central secretariat member A. Vijayaraghavan will lead the procession.

G. Sudhakaran, C.K. Sadasivan, MLAs, and other leaders are scheduled to address the meeting.

The relay procession will pass through Chertala, Vayalar and Aroor in the district. It is expected to reach Ernakulam district at 5 p.m. the same day, a release by CPI (M) district secretary C.B.Chandrababu said.
