Mani to lay stone for Vikas School complex

Finance Minister, K.M. Mani, will lay the foundation stone for the proposed Vikas School complex of the Young Men’s Christian Association at Kaniyampara in Kaviyur panchayat near Thiruvalla on Sunday afternoon.

A statement issued by Biju Lankagiri, YMCA president, here said that the Vikas School for the mentally challenged children was started at the YMCA buildings in Thiruvalla 23 years ago. The school that had started functioning with four students and a teacher, presently houses 86 students and nine employees.

Mr Lankagiri said YMCA has purchased 1.43 acres of land at Kaniyampara for setting up a modern school complex for the mentally challenged children.

He said the idea was to develop it as a modern school with state of the art education tools and other facility. The Vikas School building is estimated to cost Rs 5 crore and YMCA will be mobilizing funds from friends and well-wishers for completing the project in a time-bound manner, he said.

Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, will deliver the benedictory speech at the stone-laying ceremony.

Thomas Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church; Bishop K.P. Yohannan of the Believers Church, Mathew T. Thomas, MLA; Delsy Sam, municipal chairperson, and Leby Philip Mathew, YMCA regional chairman, will also address the function. Mr Lankagiri will preside over the meeting.
