Police to record her statement

An investigation team of the Railway Police in Palakkad left for Chennai on Monday to record the statement of a 23-year-old woman passenger who accused a 29-year-old fellow traveller on the Ernakulam-Chennai Central Suvidha Express of misbehaving and making sexually explicit remarks late Sunday night.

The woman continued her journey on Sunday night after other passengers caught the alleged tormentor and handed him over to the Railway Police in Coimbatore.

In the absence of a written complaint and detailed statement by the woman, the investigation team would meet her at her workplace in Chennai on Tuesday and record her statement. Meanwhile, the Railway Police invoked Section 354 A of the IPC that treats making of sexually coloured remarks equivalent to sexual harassment against the youth, identified as P. Rahul of Kumarakom, near Kottayam.
