Man killed brother to allegedly marry sister-in-law

The Thrissur First Class Additional Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced a Bengali youth who killed his brother to life imprisonment. The court also slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 on him.

Firoz Sheikh, 34, of Murshidabad killed his brother Moorthi Smiya, 44, a construction worker at an apartment complex at Sakthan Nagar, allegedly to marry his wife. The incident happened on October 6, 2013. Firoz killed his brother by hitting him on head with a hammer and stabbing him in the stomach.

The body was hidden in a water tank at the basement of the building under construction at Sakthan Nagar, where Smiya was working. The body was recovered after a month of the murder in a disintegrated state.

During an investigation by the West police, it was found that Firoz killed Moourthy Smiya to marry his wife.

The police recovered the weapons used for the murder. There was no eyewitness in the case.

The court considered circumstantial and scientific evidences in the case.

According to the police surgeon, the injury to the brain and deep stab injuries in the stomach were the reasons for the death.

DNA samples proved that both of them were brothers.
