Project of Alappuzha municipality

The Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front traded charges over the LED street light project at the municipal council meeting on Saturday.

The LDF, the ruling front in the municipality, alleged that the project was being delayed because of the unnecessary intervention of UDF leaders. On the other hand, UDF leaders charged the LDF with lack of transparency in the project execution.

Municipal chairperson Mercy Diana Macedo said the project was entrusted with the Kerala State Electricity Board and the contract for execution was given to a government-approved company by the KSEB. The municipality had handed over Rs.4.5 crore to the KSEB as first instalment. UDF leaders said the agreement said to have been signed between the municipality and the KSEB had never been brought for a discussion in the council.
