LDF sets aside 130 seats for HPC

October 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - IDUKKI:

Local councils under the Highrange Protection Council (HPC) will contest 130 local body seats in the district, set aside by the Left Democratic Front. There has been a discord between the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] over seat allocation to the local bodies following the latter’s move to provide seats to the council.

In the 16 divisions of the district panchayat, the council will contest three seats.

The council will contest six divisions of various block panchayats and 120 seats in the grama panchayats and the two municipalities of Thodupuzha and Kattappana.

In the newly created Kattappana municipality, where there are 34 wards , the council will contest 11. In Nedumkandam and Pampadumpara grama panchayat, it will contest five and six seats respectively.

Meanwhile, the LDF leadership says there is no alliance between the Highrange Protection Council and the LDF and it has set aside seats for some local councils working for the interest of farmers.

In the Parliament elections, the LDF had supported the candidate of the council who won the polls.
