As many as 24 Keralites, the last among those rescued from the flood-hit areas of Kashmir, reached Kochi on Monday.

According to officials, the tourists, most of them hailing from Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts, first reached Delhi from Leh and landed in Kochi by an Air India flight.

They had reached Kashmir on September 6 and were rescued days after the devastating floods that ravaged the Valley.

Recounting the horror, the tourists said the failure of mobile network was a major problem and the situation was better now as communication was improving.

“Contrary to the claims by the State government, there is every possibility of some Keralites being trapped at some isolated locations,’’ said one tourist.

They also recalled how Army men filled them with courage and helped them come out of the flood-affected areas unscathed.

“If we are alive it is only because of the Army,” said Simon Thomas, a native of Kottayam.
