Kudumbasree products to have common brand name

August 31, 2011 08:14 pm | Updated 08:14 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Kudumbasree Mission will place some of its popular products from rural women entrepreneurs under one common brand, ‘Kudumbasree Community Brand' with a view to take on the products of multinational companies.

To mark the launching of the new marketing initiative, Kudumbasree is bringing together as many as 40 brands under one roof for a special two-day exhibition at the Panchayat Association hall here from September 2. The fair will offer an opportunity for traders to ink marketing ties directly with the women entrepreneurs, a Kudumbasree Mission release issued here on Wednesday said.

Kudumbasree, which has scripted a silent revolution in the past years by guiding the rural women to find livelihood through micro-enterprises, will market some of its quality products under the common brand. They include four categories – apparels, food items, traditional healthcare products, and health and hygiene products. As many as 40 products, hitherto marketed under different brands, will thus get a common branding.

Kudumbasree also plans to gain an access to the markets outside its traditional fold and compete with the big brands by highlighting its advantages like purity, quality, and ethnic taste. Traders have also been invited to the expo to explore possibilities of marketing collaborations with the manufacturers.

The micro-enterprises under Kudumbasree, through its traditional marketing modes, garner around Rs.125 crore annually. As many as 75,000 families, mostly from the BPL category, are associated with these ventures.
